"AN INTRODUCTION TO MOLECULAR GENETICS AND BIOINFORMATICS"

The Bio-tech hub, National Research Center on Pig, Rani, Guwahati, Assam, sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, organized a training programme entitled "An Introduction to Molecular Genetics and Bioinformatics" on 7-8th September, 2011. The training programme was designed for students and researchers of CAU/SAU/ICAR Institutes/ other universities/Animal Husbandry Department with the objective to familiarize the participants about the recent development of molecular biology in animal science and to expose the participants to various molecular genetics and bioinformatics methods. The training programme covered lectures and practical demonstration on different aspects of basic molecular genetics viz. nucleic acid isolation, PCR technique, electrophoresis technique, lymphocyte culture and karyotyping.

Prof. S.K. Ghosh, Head, Department of Biotechnology, Assam University, Silchar, Assam and Dr. T.K. Datta, Principal Scientist, Animal Genomics Lab., Animal Biotechnology Centre, National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana were delivered their lecture as invited speaker for the training programme. A total of sixteen participants from different parts of Guwahati and neighbouring area attended the training. The participants were presented a certificate after completion of the course by Dr. Anubrata Das, Director, NRC on Pig. The programme was concluded by vote of thanks by Dr. Santanu Banik, Senior Scientist (AGB); Course Director and Coordinator biotech hub. All the participants were highly satisfied and express their interest to rejoin such type of training programme at the institute.
